Cory Greenwood Connects Through Stories
Cory Greenwood is a motivational speaker who talks at schools across America. This February, the Inver Grove Heights Spartan Prevention, Advocacy, and Resources Coalition (SPARC) brought him to Inver Grove Heights to hold events for Simley High School students, Inver Grove Heights Middle School students, and the Inver Grove Heights community. He shared personal stories that focused on mental health, leadership, positive decision-making, and support.
Mr. Greenwood welcomed audiences into his presentations with a live band to get them excited and engaged. Then, he launched into funny and deeply personal stories to illustrate his messages. By the end of each presentation, audiences had laughed, cried, and realized the importance of connecting with their loved ones.
Mr. Greenwood spoke to students at Simley and IGH Middle School. At the middle school, he talked to students about the importance of being yourself. He explained that people want to connect with the real versions of others, not the exaggerated stories they might tell about themselves.
At the high school, he told stories highlighting the importance of finding your harness. He explained that a harness is the person in each student’s life who the student can count on when life is hard and who will give them honest feedback.
“I’m probably the only motivational speaker who will tell you that affirmations don’t always work,” he said. “For those times, find your harness, that person who will keep you grounded.”
After his presentations at the high school, he visited classes, connected with student athletes and IGH SPARC Youth Group members, and ate lunch with students at Simley.
His free community event focused more on the role of parents. He told funny stories about the need to be flexible in life and heartfelt stories about a teacher who continued to show him support even when he struggled and didn’t believe in himself. He ended the event by encouraging parents to show up for their kids, and even their kids’ friends.
“Just be there for them,” he said. “Be there for them even when it’s difficult because they need you.”

Cory Greenwood es un orador motivacional que habla en escuelas de todo Estados Unidos. Este febrero, la Coalición de recursos, defensa y prevención espartana de Inver Grove Heights (SPARC) lo llevó a Inver Grove Heights para realizar eventos para los estudiantes de Simley High School, los estudiantes de Inver Grove Heights Middle School y la comunidad de Inver Grove Heights. Compartió historias personales que se centraron en la salud mental, el liderazgo, la toma de decisiones positivas y el apoyo.
El Sr. Greenwood dio la bienvenida al público a sus presentaciones con una banda en vivo para emocionarlos y comprometerlos. Luego, se lanzó a historias divertidas y profundamente personales para ilustrar sus mensajes. Al final de cada presentación, el público se rió, lloró y se dio cuenta de la importancia de conectarse con sus seres queridos.
El Sr. Greenwood habló con los estudiantes de Simley y IGH Middle School. En la escuela intermedia, les habló a los estudiantes sobre la importancia de ser uno mismo. Explicó que las personas quieren conectarse con las versiones reales de los demás, no con las historias exageradas que podrían contar sobre sí mismos.
En la escuela secundaria, contó historias que destacaban la importancia de encontrar tu arnés. Explicó que un arnés es la persona en la vida de cada estudiante con la que el estudiante puede contar cuando la vida es difícil y que le dará una retroalimentación honesta.
“Probablemente soy el único orador motivacional que te dirá que las afirmaciones no siempre funcionan”, dijo. “Para esos momentos, encuentra tu arnés, esa persona que te mantendrá conectado a tierra”.
Después de sus presentaciones en la escuela secundaria, visitó clases, se conectó con estudiantes atletas y miembros del Grupo Juvenil IGH SPARC, y almorzó con estudiantes en Simley.
Su evento comunitario gratuito se centró más en el papel de los padres. Contó historias divertidas sobre la necesidad de ser flexible en la vida e historias sinceras sobre un maestro que continuó mostrándole apoyo incluso cuando luchaba y no creía en sí mismo. Terminó el evento alentando a los padres a asistir a sus hijos, e incluso a los amigos de sus hijos.
“Solo estar allí para ellos”, dijo. “Estar allí para ellos incluso cuando sea difícil porque te necesitan”.
