Color Run Celebrates Healthy Choices

The Inver Grove Heights Spartan Prevention, Advocacy, and Resource Coalition (IGH SPARC) held a color run to bring the Simley High School and Inver Grove Heights Middle School communities together for a healthy, positive event. IGH SPARC also used the event as a reminder that MOST Simley and IGHMS Spartans DON’T vape, drink alcohol, or use marijuana*. 

During the color run, IGH SPARC and Spartan SPARC Youth Group members threw colored powder at students and staff dressed in white as they ran along a trail behind the schools. Students ran and walked with friends, enjoying the outdoor event and collecting as many colors on their clothes as possible. 

IGH SPARC’s goal is to reduce youth substance use in Inver Grove Heights. The coalition organizes free events to provide fun, positive alternatives for kids. The group also focuses on using data to correct misperceptions about youth substance use and, ultimately, reduce underage substance use. Inver Grove Heights parents, students, and community members and Inver Grove Heights Schools staff are invited to join IGH SPARC. La Coalición Espartana de Prevención, Defensa y Recursos de Inver Grove Heights (IGH SPARC) realizó una carrera de colores para reunir a las comunidades de Simley High School y Inver Grove Heights Middle School en un evento saludable y positivo. IGH SPARC también usó el evento como un recordatorio de que la MAYORÍA de Simley e IGHMS Spartans NO vapean, beben alcohol ni consumen marihuana*.

Durante la carrera de colores, los miembros de IGH SPARC y Spartan SPARC Youth Group arrojaron polvos de colores a los estudiantes y al personal vestidos de blanco mientras corrían por un sendero detrás de las escuelas. Los estudiantes corrieron y caminaron con amigos, disfrutaron del evento al aire libre y coleccionaron la mayor cantidad posible de colores en su ropa.

La coalición organiza eventos gratuitos para brindar alternativas divertidas y positivas para los niños. El grupo también se enfoca en usar datos para corregir percepciones erróneas sobre el uso de sustancias por parte de los jóvenes y, en última instancia, reducir el uso de sustancias por parte de menores. Los padres, estudiantes y miembros de la comunidad de Inver Grove Heights y el personal de Inver Grove Heights Schools están invitados a unirse a IGH SPARC.
